# 10

As Scarlett was coming down the stairs, Andrei said without turning around, as if he expected it: "Go to prison instead of paying the fine. But you must pay my salary."
“Stop talking!”
Scarlett scolded, but she had full confidence that Andrei would never reveal this secret.
As usual, she took her tool bag, took the two children's hands, and went into the garage where the tram was stored.
As soon as she appeared, the faces of the tram drivers, who looked pained, shone with joy.
"Dad! We brought Scarlett!"
The twins ran to their father, and Mr. Powell shouted angrily: “I told you not to call a respectable lady's name like that! Call her miss!”
Despite Scarlett's request to be comfortable with her, Powell flatly refused. But the two children had another opinion.
“Come on, Scarlett don't get mad about it!”
"correct!"
The twins shouted as they ran and stumbled over the tram.
“I'm really sorry we tire you out every time, Miss Scarlett,” Powell said with a sorry expression.
“This time is really the last”
"Yes! I promise!"
“Okay, everyone turned around. Except Susan.”
At Scarlett's words, everyone turned around except the little girl.
Scarlett took off her simple dress to go out, and appeared in the business suit she was wearing underneath. Then she crawled under the tram and said: “Mr. Powell, the wrench.”
“Ah, yes!”
Powell quickly opened the tool bag, and Charlie took the wrench and crept under the tram to give it to her.
Charlie asked as he lay down: “Scarlett, what else can I bring?”
“Pipe wrench and various types of nuts”
“Okay!”
Charlie replied, quickly crawled out, and then asked Paul: “Dad, what is a pipe wrench? And what is a set of nuts?”
“There she is”
The nuts were heavy for Charlie to carry with his hands, so he carefully hugged them and handed them to her, then returned to get the pipe wrench.
After examining the steam engine, the connected wires, and the handle for a long time under the tram, Scarlett came out and said, “Try it running.”
“Yes, miss!”
One of the drivers quickly climbed into the driver's seat.
Meanwhile, other drivers brought coal to power the steam engine.
They were sweating from the tension despite the cold, and when the operation was successful, they shouted excitedly: “It worked, it worked, miss!”
“Oh my God, I thought this time it was really over!”
All the drivers cheered.
If one tram breaks down, two drivers lose their jobs. Seeing people breathing a sigh of relief, Scarlett couldn't help but smile.
Susan ran to her, pulled her sleeve and said: “I will clean your face.”
“Thank you for your kindness, but I will wash it myf. You will be scolded if your clothes get dirty.”
“No, they don't scold me for cleaning Scarlett's face.”
Susan insisted, but Scarlett shook her head and wiped her soot-covered face with her sleeve. People laughed.
Susan pointed to her face and said: “It's even dirtier!”
"truly?"
Scarlett was looking for a mirror awkwardly, when one of the drivers watching outside ran up in panic: “The police!”
“What? Miss Scarlett, hide! Quick!”
At his screams, the drivers collected the scattered jackets and hung them on the hangers. They hid Scarlett's dress in an empty charcoal bag, and put her in a luggage compartment behind the hangar.
Immediately after Scarlett was hidden, the police entered.
“What brings you here? We’re all busy,” Powell asked with a deliberately grim expression.
One of the policemen responded in an investigative tone: “We received a report that the tram had stopped. We came to check if it was broken.”
“He ran out of fuel and stopped. After refilling it, he was fine. Who reported when he didn’t know anything?”
Powell shouted, mentally preparing for any eventuality.
Scarlett hid behind the grill, holding her breath, waiting for the two policemen to leave. I felt cold from stress.
Powell complained to the policeman inspecting the tram: “There are no technicians in the country who can repair the tram at all.”
“That's right”
They thought that the police would just conduct a symbolic search as usual.
As Powell said, most of the technicians capable of repairing the tram were killed, and even if policemen examined the machine, they would not know if it was broken down or out of fuel. But since a report was received, they were pretending to check all the trams.
“Why do you go there? There are only smelly clothes.”
The voice of a panicked driver was heard.
Scarlett squeezed her heart, which began to beat rapidly upon hearing footsteps approaching.
The steps stopped suddenly, and the holders were moved to the side. Then the box was opened.
Scarlett raised her head in shock and froze.
From behind the jackets, her ex-husband, Victor Domfelt, was looking at her.
Even though the divorce had not been long, Victor seemed completely different.
He was a little thinner, and his face, which exuded the severity of a naval officer, seemed strangely lonely.
What was most surprising was the calmness of his straight eyes, which reflected a youthful arrogance, as if decades had passed.
The Marines of the Rubid Ship, which he commanded, were conscripted as police when there were no missions, so logically, it was likely that they would meet. But, isn't it the law of the world that you meet someone you don't want to see in the worst circumstances?
In that short moment, thousands of thoughts ran through Scarlett's head, but she couldn't find a solution.
As she muffled her quickened breaths with her hands, Victor, who was looking at her, pulled out an ornate silver pistol.
Scarlett closed her eyes tightly and turned her head.
Two successive shots were fired from a pistol equipped with a silencer.
Everyone froze, and Victor turned around.
“Let's go”
He responded indifferently, but some drivers sat on the ground in horror.
Deputy Commander Evan Light followed him and said as if nothing had happened: “Yes, Commander.”
There was no one who dared to challenge Victor Domfelt, the king's grandson, so no one asked and they turned around.
Victor headed to the warehouse door, and a nearby policeman opened the door and propped it up.
They left quickly.
Powell ran to the box, and saw two bullets in the charcoal bag, and Scarlett curled up cradling her arm, cut by the splinters of wood.
"Susan! Charlie! Help Miss Scarlett!"
At his words, the two children, who had their eyes covered, ran to her.
The bikers removed the troublemaker, and the twins helped Scarlett out of the box. Her legs were shaking, so she leaned against the wall.
What if Victor wasn't the one who saw her? Was he going to kill her right away?
The Victor she knew wouldn't overlook her just because she was his ex-wife. But it seems that their rare meeting made him hesitate.
Repairing the tram meant someone's livelihood. Not just drivers, but also those who depend on trams to commute for their jobs.
The problem is basically the ridiculous law that says repairing the tram contravenes the will of the governor.
She came here with strong determination, but when death approached her and then moved away, her head became dark.
Powell sat in front of her in confusion and said in a trembling voice: “I'm sorry, Miss Scarlett. This will never happen again.”
“Right. We'd better look for new jobs...”
Everyone was frozen, they thought Scarlett was almost dead. Susan and Charlie, who had brought her, were clinging to her, trembling.
Scarlett thought she shouldn't remain shocked.
She bent down and saw the twins.
“Why are you shaking like that?”
Susan burst into tears and said: “Because I brought you...”
"Not true. I came because I wanted to, don't you remember?"
Scarlett smiled, and Charlie said with a sob: “No, we insisted.”
“No, I don't listen to idiots. I came because I wanted to. Tram repair is fun, by the way.”
Scarlett tried to joke, but the twins cried louder and clung to her, crying bitterly.
