Chapter Thirty-Seven
.Chapter Thirty-Seven.
I saw a cart waiting for me outside the store, standing quietly as if asking me to ride in it.
All I have to do is put your foot in it and tell the driver to take me home.
But before I could finish my reverie, Diane took my arm and began to lead me cheerfully down the road.
“Last time, you spilled wine on your mother’s pearl necklace without knowing, and the pearls were completely ruined...but it went well.
Maybe the pearls from the Karen Sea will make your mother feel better… and they will suit your purple eyes well.”
At the end of those words, Diane turned and looked at me with excited eyes and smiled brightly: “Carmella’s eyes are really beautiful, so anything will look good on her.”
Her rosy cheeks were clearly as red as apples.
She was happy like a child.
She was so happy, I almost felt a little sorry that I couldn't have fun this time.
“Thanks for the compliment… Diane… I think it would be great… Thank you for telling me about this fine pearl.”
"You're welcome."
Her smile seemed more shy than innocent compared to the relaxed and intelligent look I had seen in my previous life.
I feel a bit strange.
She was a person who loved people and opened her heart so easily, but why did she die alone while smiling at the end without opening her heart to anyone?.
What was different this time to make her open her heart to me like this?.
I couldn't figure it out.
However, apart from not knowing why, when I thought about it, my heart weakened and I ended up smiling with her.
“Let's go... I'm looking forward to it.. It will be more fun to look at the jewelry together.”
In the end, surprisingly, her sweeping up on me and spending the day with her wasn't a bad thing.
It was tiring, but it was definitely fun.
Of course, that doesn't mean my poor stamina has gone anywhere.
“Ha...”
I briefly loosened my shoes to make sure my feet were in place.
This was possible because I was alone after asking Diane to rest for a while because my feet were hurting.
When I sat in the guest chair, my body felt tired and I felt like a wringed towel.
In the distance, I heard Diane's voice happily talking about making silver jewelry.
She obviously doesn't enjoy riding or exercising as much as I do, so where does she get this kind of stamina from? It was great.
Could she be doing this type of exercise without me knowing? I had my doubts.
“You look tired... Shall I get you some refreshment?”
Before I knew it, a clothing store employee was approaching me and asking me.
Her voice was a welcome one to hear.
I gladly accepted the service.
She showed the woman who had brought him some refreshments and asked.
“It's not appropriate for me to eat alone. Can you stay with me?”
After a little hesitation, she pretended to be unable to resist and sat down when I asked her to do me a favor because I felt lonely eating alone.
As soon as the sweet stuff entered her mouth, her expression seemed to relax.
Without missing it, I said something to her.
“So, is there anything interesting going on these days?”
She hesitated for a moment, but it was more like concern about what kind of stories a noble lady wanted than an expression of her desire to control her mouth.
After thinking for a moment, the employee said several things.
In general, it told a story about where the jewelry was produced and when it would be in stock.
She also told a story about the lady who was interested in the jewel and which family bought the famous jewel.
I listened to her casually and then asked her: “Since this place deals with jewelry, I think gentlemen often come here to give jewelry to ladies as gifts... Are there any interesting love stories?”
You know my interest now! The employee started listing different things with expressions on her face.
At first, she told harmless rumors that could be heard anywhere, but gradually deeper and more intimate stories began to emerge.
It seemed that my interested attitude and easy response to her had ignited the spirit of chatter in her.
The faster the candy gets into her mouth, the happier her facial expression becomes and the faster she speaks.
In the beginning, everything from light and breezy stories to stories of common mistresses and lovers appeared.
When I heard that she was a commoner's lover, I automatically thought of Rena and my face almost stiffened, but fortunately I was able to get over it.
Now these things can't hurt me.
no. I'm not here for this.
“There are a lot of different things going on... It's really interesting... Thinking about it, I heard that mithril showed up in Viscount Paine's mine this time... Isn't there an interesting love story there?”
Another doubt appeared on her expression after hearing my words.
“Is he dating anyone from there?”
I added an additional explanation to this expression.
“Usually, gentlemen who have a lot of money always have a mistress…don’t you think he has something?”
At those words, great sympathy appeared on the face of the employee who introduced herself as Lana.
She nodded enthusiastically, so high in the chatter that she couldn't tell if she was speaking to herself or if the words were coming out of her.
“Right. Why does everyone do this? They only look for a new woman when they have money.”
Damn...they're mean people.
By the way, I think this is why Count Danube's situation has improved recently.
I don’t know anything about his women, but I heard he made money by lending money to gamblers and playing with them... Even heaven didn’t care, and gave the mithril to Count Danube without his brother... Of course...”
My eyes lit up with information I had never heard before.
It was my first time hearing this.
"His brother? Did he have a brother?"
When she showed interest, Lana seemed excited: “It is said that Viscount Payne’s family was a small family and their parents were very poor, so there are many fights between relatives over the mine.
However, the estate somehow passed to the legitimate son, but his relatives took so much from him that his brother had difficulty paying the debts of the estate during his lifetime.”
I was convinced.
“When the main family loses its power, the subsidiary families turn into wolves… It must have been painful….”
Lana spoke quickly with a sparkling face as if she was anticipating my reaction: “But in the meantime, the family was in trouble because the younger brother was addicted to gambling and squandered the family fortune without his older brother knowing… It was said that soldiers from other families had invaded the area and it was no joke… At one point, the entire area was in an uproar over this incident.”
I opened my mouth for a moment.
“In another family's territory, soldiers? Why… unless they were planning to engage in a territory war...”
Lana seemed satisfied with my reaction and said with an emotional face: “Because… it turns out that part of the estate was tied up in gambling debts… He did something like this because the money he had wasn’t enough.”
Although it might be someone else's business, I felt a headache for a moment.
I was so annoyed with that Count Danube that I sighed.
“He's crazy... He should have been kicked out of the family and taken his last name... How could he do something like that without the master of the house knowing? He seems like a terrible person.”
Lana agreed: “Really. This guy is still cheap… but the eldest brother said he didn’t do it because he was his only remaining brother… In the end, his eldest brother, he managed to solve his problem, and the family barely reached a stable state. He once again struggled with the disease, and died from it.”
She frowned: “It's as if his younger brother killed him.”
Lana nodded loudly: “That's right. It must have been a difficult time for him... After going through this twice, he became physically ill due to his mental illness... But it was only after the younger brother inherited the mine that the mithril exploded... Even Heaven doesn't care why it didn't explode when his older brother was around, who worked hard and lived hard.”
I also sympathized with Big Brother.
How is life really? Is something so unreasonable happening?.
It was a sad story.
“What a shame that the bad man has become so rich. Now that he has money, he can’t give up his habit and start going to the gambling house again… If his brother from the other world finds out, he will cry.”
At best, he was saved by his older brother, but he fell ill and died.
“His older brother died from illness, and he returned to the gambling house just because he had money... It is a shame to describe him as a human being.”
Lana received the words with an expression that disagreed with my words: “That's right… I heard that he was suffering from gambling debts because his property income was decreasing but his spending was not, I thought he would finally get his payback...”
At that time, a woman with an expression more disapproving than hers silently appeared behind her.
I was impressed by her stern, cold-looking face as she pulled her hair back so that not a single hair remained unkempt.
“Lana, how can you sit like this in front of the guests, eating and drinking... What on earth are you doing now?”
While she was talking to her, she froze, looking back.
“Ms. Veravin…….”
The woman, Madame Verabin, looked at Lana with stern eyes, then changed her expression and bowed her head to me with a polite look on her face.
“Mrs. Armin Family. Nice to meet you. Thank you for visiting our store… Please forgive my child’s impudence.”
At these words I nodded lightly and said.
“Thank you for hosting me...”
I said, looking at Lana who froze like a frog in front of the snake.
“Please don’t blame her. Because I was there alone, I invited her to eat with me and we talked... Her speaking skills made me very happy.”
Madame Verabin looked at Lana for a moment and then answered calmly.
“Since our honored guest says so, of course we should follow you… Lana, please be grateful for her generosity.”
Unfortunately, it seems that I won't be able to get any more information since a person with a heavy mouth and stern appearance has come.
It seems that their relationship was not good.
The two left the hall with the sound of the door.
Their voices drifted faintly through the silence through the thick door.
“I… ma’am.”
“Shh… You want to die because of carelessly mocking a noble.”
"sorry …."
Through the door, I heard distant footsteps and scolding.
I swallowed my regrets and stayed alone to drink tea.
The tea had cooled and lost its aroma, but it still gave me slight pleasure.
With the taste of milky tea lingering on the tip of my tongue, information about Viscount Payne, who I had just acquired, was quietly flying through my head.
That the money of his estate is being used up solely for his own enjoyment, such as gambling.
He is a gambling addict and cannot control himself.
He had an animalistic personality that couldn't even think, and he was not qualified to manage the estate.
“A gambling addict and a failed astrologer who is sure to be destroyed sooner or later... and the loan sharks will also swallow him... so how did he get here?”
The outlines seem to be drawn little by little.
As I put the teacup down so it wouldn't make a sound, I quietly thought about the next thing.
Once the diagram was drawn, physical evidence was needed.
All evidence pointed to the truth of the mine and that it was useless.
What did he think to give that gift to Diane?.
But Diane quietly denied that possibility.
Of course, I wasn't sufficient to find the evidence on my own.
I needed someone else skilled in this dark work.
Looks like I need to meet Zaid.
“What would it take to make him follow me?”
She exhaled and took a moment to think deeply.
“Carmella~.”
However, after a while, she quickly stood up in response to Diane’s call: “Ah, are you finished, Diane?”
Don't forget to comment, stars and follow.
Enjoyable reading.
